Skin RollerThe principle – The tiny holes that are made in the stratum corneum (top layer of skin) by the roller are many times larger than the molecules that need to get through into the epidermis, which therefore allows the chemicals to literally fall through into the deeper layers of the epidermis (think of this like feeding a Christmas cake – we need the tiny little channels for the vitamins, peptides and antioxidants to go through to where they can be most effective, rather than just sitting on top of the skin)!
If these molecules are water-soluble, they immediately pass through the main obstruction and enter into an area where there is lots of water, and there they are more easily transported through to the deeper cells. The higher the levels of vitamin A and vitamin C we can get into the lower levels of the epidermis, the more collagen can be made.
The size of the needles are key, the needles need to be minimum of 0.1mm and no more than 0.2mm in length. Research has shown that micro-needles that puncture only the stratum corneum, the top layer of the epidermis increase the amount of large molecules that can penetrate through the skin up to 10,000 fold! Therefore, Dr Des Fernandes designed an instrument with micro-needles which can safely puncture the very top layers, without damaging the lower layers of the skin. There is no pain when using the Environ skin rollers because there are no nerves in the upper part of the epidermis.
