Free Radicals and Antioxidants

Free Radical Is an unstable atom. They cause cells to break down over time and are linked to ageing. I will try to explain this to you in the same way I understand it - oxidation starts the process of an unstable molecule within the skin and, in turn, the atom surrounding it. It’s an electron in the body that breaks away, but it needs to be paired with another, so it goes to steal one from another atom. This process happening over and over again accelerates the ageing process. Various things can cause the oxidation, triggering free radicals, including UV light from computer screens and phones, UV rays (like the sun), smoking, pollution, and stress. Antioxidants are essential to protect the molecule - it almost ‘bubblewraps’ it to protect it!

Antioxidants Have been found to be very effective at neutralising the free radical chain reactions and slowing down free radical activity before they can do any harm in the body. As I explained above, I like to think of it as ‘bubblewrapping’ the skin cell and protecting it!
